Inspired by ‘La Piscine’, a 1960’s psychological thriller set during a heady summer on the Cote d’Azure, Resort 22 ‘Liaison’ artfully balances strength and softness, structure and ease. The collection began with exploring the relationship between 1960s film icons Romy Schnider and Alain Delon. Originally the couple fell in love on the set of the 1958 film, 'Christine', and were engaged the following year. Schneider and Delon decided to separate in December 1963, although they remained close life-long friends, eventually working together on 'La Piscine' in 1969. In 1970, the Los Angeles Times called ‘La Piscine’ a “handsome, stunningly designed film” which was at its best in “the deft way in which it coolly depicts how beautiful, chic people, dedicated to a sophisticate, amoral view of love, can be utterly defenceless against an onslaught of passion." The film’s core themes of unspoken tension, subversive desire and cool sophistication run through the collection. They are highlighted via the juxtaposition of a relaxed, masculine approach to tailoring, alongside close-to-the-body fits and sheer fabrics. This is complimented by loosely-woven knits, such as the Piscine Tank, Dress and Cardigan, which imbue a true ‘resort’ feeling to the collection. “When designing a collection, our core focus is always about creating pieces that transcended traditional boundaries between work and personal life” - Lauren Tapper, Creative Director.
